Laurie has over 30 years of public accounting experience and 10 years of forensic accounting experience. She specializes in working with small and medium sized businesses. After graduating from The State University of Oswego in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, Laurie worked as a staff accountant/auditor for a medium size accounting firm in NYC where most of her clients were construction contractors. In 1999 Laurie became a partner in the firm of Schlechter & Monteverde CPAs, LLP. Simultaneously, she was instrumental in the merger of the firm with a sole practitioner, Sanford Fine, CPA. As a result of the merger, Laurie met Kristen Amari. Kris quickly became a key employee of Schlechter & Monteverde CPAs, LLP. In 2004, upon the retirement of Gerald Schlechter, Laurie & Kris became partners and formed Monteverde & Amari CPAs, LLP. They have enjoyed many successful years working together and are looking forward to their next chapter as Principals at the firm of Michels & Hanley CPAs, LLP. Over the years, Laurie has worked with clients in various industries but working with construction contractors has been a common thread throughout her career. Laurie prides herself on being a responsive and trusted advisor to her clients. Laurie is also a Certified Fraud Examiner and has worked on a variety of forensic cases. In this area, she specializes in assisting attorneys and their clients achieve the most favorable results possible in civil & criminal tax cases. Laurie & her husband Bill live in West Hills. They have three grown daughters. During time off Laurie enjoys spending time with family & friends, exploring new places, finding classic cars with Bill, reading, baking, listening to music and doing yard work.
